I’m usually a painted cabinet kind of girl when it comes to kitchen and bath built-ins. But thumbing through the September Elle Decor, I realized I’m really digging bleached/whitewashed oak. Look how crisp and bright it is in Megan Mullally’s home in Los Angeles.

Oak cabinetry seduced me at the Bencich Residence on the Modern Atlanta 2010 Home Tour in June.

Here we have the floors bleached with painted cabinets. I’ve had this Houston kitchen saved on my desktop since last fall when we were about to buy a house with honey yellow wood floors. I wanted to bleach the daylights out of them. The simplicity of this kitchen and the seafoam green cabinets charm my pants off.

I have a strong memory of the Bencich Residence because, well you know, you were there. And my girls and I camped out for a while in the back yard. I love the kitchen too mostly because it doesn’t call attention to itself. It is handsome, elegant, open, and light. Dark would have been awful in there.
What I remember most though is the long, sturdy desk that faces out toward the backyard. That’s where I want to be. It would even look good loaded with a family’s messy build up.
You are really beginning to get on my nerves! If you could see me…you would see my tongue…because I’m sticking it out at you!
Oh my goodness your title scared me! I couldn’t imagine YOU a blond!
I’m with ya on the bleached wood….love it!
Can’t wait to see your b/a!
xx
Tons of comments I could make, but I’ll just say…I want those chairs in that last photo!
