This blog gets more “ranch redo” search engine hits than any other topics–especially on weekends. I guess when one is sitting at home for two days staring at four rectangular brick walls, the mind starts wondering about possibilities to transform the humble ranch house.
When we walked up to the house-turned-shop The Catbird Seat in Cashiers, North Carolina, last August, I noted the details that gave the old rancher a boost.

Beefy shutters, glass doors, substantial pediments above the doors, outdoor drapes, decorative railing…

Turquoise outdoor furniture and sconces–plain brick ranchers, especially in the back, benefit from some ornamentation. Jezebel your rancher!

I’m thinking those openings beneath the porch used to be garage doors…..
If so, I love that they got rid of the “Hello. Welcome to my garage. Can you find my house?” Look.
“substantial pediments” I’ll say and turquoise always works for me.
Jezebel your house! I like it. Going to ponder that……
Beautiful place.
I like turquoise. It’s always brighten my days.
