Shopping Asheville

It was Asheville’s lucky day when six design bloggers showed up to shop last weekend.  First stop, Screen Door!

Rhoda snaps a photo of the resident kitty.  Aww!

Shannon flipped through a stash of kitschy paint-by-numbers.  The girl knows how to group these puppies.  And, Heidi spotted a lamp and said, “Angela, that would look good in the loft!”  Yes, ma’am, it would–good eyes!

Ladies & Loot

Next we were off to the Tobacco Barn–I love you.

The chair tempts Lori…but would it fit in the car???

There is always good stuff to find like glass-topped tables with hoof feet and pieces to wistfully covet like a slightly unsettling unfinished painting.  Shannon and I discovered that we both have had a thing for this painting–that has been at TB for months now.

Then it was time to put 4 bloggers’ things into my mid-size SUV.  Blake at Tobacco Barn to the rescue!  Strangely enough, I didn’t have to fight anyone for that concrete Easter bunny.  He’s going to the loft to keep my headless torso company.  We’re a motley crew here at TPH.

Let’s go again soon!

Weekend in the Mountains

This is how to spend a blog break: relaxing with some fun, talented ladies in a mountain cottage, topped off with showhouse gawking and treasure hunting.

[Left to right: Lori of Lori May Interiors, Me, Shannon of Shannon Berrey Design, Heidi, Rhoda of Southern Hospitality, and Renae of Renae Moore Designs.  A fine group of girls to hang with, letmetellyou.]

Like a turkey (we had a whole gaggle/herd/flock/pride greet us upon arrival) in the bushes, I snuck up on the ladies chatting on the deck.  Hmm, what are they talking about?  BLOGGING!

And there was shopping, y’all.

We found stuff.  More on that later and how it all fit like a glove in the back of my SUV.  Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

So, I’m thinking the break is over.  I have too many good posts in the coffers to stay on a blog break, so without much fanfare, I’m back.  See you around.

Cottages & Bungalows, October 2011

The cottage issue is out!  And I bought myself a few copies today.

It was so fun to flip through the pages and see our cottage there!  And now the kids think Mama is famous, ha!  I hope you will track down your own copy to see Kevin and Layla’s wonderful photography and styling.

I think it is hilarious that on page 60 I have my art published.  Why “hilarious,” you ask?  Funny because the large floral I painted when I was 12 and the others florals when I was 14 or 15.  Pre-teen Angela would be very pleased with this turn of events.

Thank you, Kevin and Layla and Cottages & Bungalows for the beautiful feature!

(Oh, yeah, I’m still on a summer blog break…)

Of Cottage & Blog Breaks

Hi there, remember me?  I’m popping in to advise you to be on the look out for cottage loveliness by way of Cottages & Bungalows!  Layla and Kevin styled and shot the cottage last November for the magazine, and you may be able to get your hands on a copy soon.  I haven’t seen it yet, but you better believe I’m getting out tomorrow and seeing what I can find.  Here is a sneak peek of their work from their blog, The Lettered Cottage:

Ooo, I can’t wait to see it!

So those red fall leaves up there remind me that fall is coming and that summer AND my blog break are almost over.  I’m still not sure when I will resume regular posting.  Summer school is winding down and then we’ll have a short break before we start the fall semester.

Summer school has been FUN!  How could it not when it includes gold-leaf ABCs?  The two older kids and I just returned from the fieldtrip of all fieldtrips–a jaunt to Chicago for a few days, which included admiring Danh Vo’s Bowditch Alphabet on our haunches.  I can’t wait to share with you what has consumed many summer school hours in our basement studio–a fine place to spend 95-degree summer days.

Also, the loft is almost done.  You know, so close to done that it hurts?  Well, Chris is almost done.  I still have much to do myself.  There is much to show & tell.  I think I’ll have blog post material for months.  I hope you’ll join me here.

So, I’ll announce soon when I plan to come back here to my neglected baby.  Until then, mwah!
